Friday 9/4 Agenda

Marshmallow Challenge

Rules:

  • Build the Tallest Freestanding Structure: The winning team has the tallest structure measured from the tabletop to the top of the marshmallow. That means the structure cannot be suspended from a higher structure, like a chair, ceiling, or chandelier.
  • The whole marshmallow needs to be at the top of the structure. Cutting or eating part of the marshmallow disqualifies the team.
  • Use as much or as little of the kit as needed. You are not required to use all the materials. You cannot use the paper bag in the structure.
  • You may break up the spaghetti, string or tape into smaller pieces.
  • The Challenge Lasts 18 minutes: Teams cannot hold up the structure when time runs out. Those touching or supporting the structure at the end of the exercise will be disqualified.
  • Make sure everyone on your team understands the rules.

On the next blank page in your notebook, write the heading: Marshmallow Challenge and today's date. Draw a detailed diagram of your marshmallow tower, make a key to identify each part (tape, string, spaghetti, marshmallow) and use symbols or colors to distinguish the parts. Indicate the height of your tower measured in centimeters (to the nearest 10th of a centimeter)

Exit ticket: Go to Google Classroom and complete and submit the Marshmallow Challenge Reflection assignment.
